DISTINCTIVE ASPECTS OF THE COLLECTION
The branch holds very good reference collection on African-American history. There is a
large Children's section on biographies as well as an excellent collection of material in
large print format. The branch holds the Misses Clare and Helen Dennis Doll Collection.

Preschool story hours, chess and film programs are offered weekly
for children.
SPECIAL
PROGRAMMING OFFERED
Lecture programs are typically offered in the fall or spring focusing on topics of local
interest including local history. Summer reading programs are offered for children.
HISTORY
Opened in 1905 the branch was named for John Codman a local preacher and patriot.
Originally housed at 6 Norfolk Street, the branch moved to its present location in 1978.
The building was designed by Eco-Texture, Inc.
During the Summer of 2006 the Ashmont Hill Association completed a project to beautify the Codman Square Branch Library grounds. The group applied for and received a "Small Changes" grant from the Boston Parks and Recreation Department.
