New Books
The newest additions to our
collections and books published within the last few years, are on the First Floor of the
Johnson Building in the Central Library. Material is shelved in Fiction and Non-Fiction Sections. There is also a
section for New Large Print Books.This
is where to find the Hot New Reads! 600 plus new titles are added monthly. Check daily and
weekly for new books.
Large Print
Contemporary high interest
novels and non-fiction for the reader with vision problems are part of the
Central Library's collection. Books available in large print include such genres as
westerns, romance, adventure, nature, and biography.
Large print fiction
and non-fiction collections are located on the first floor of the Johnson Building
in the back left corner near the Travel Guidebooks. New fiction large print books are located at the end of the
new fiction section. Like regular print fiction, large print fiction
is shelved alphabetically by author's last name.
The Rey Children's Room also maintains a
collection of large print books for children.
Large Print collections are also located
in the Brighton, Codman Square and Dudley Branch Libraries. Large print books can also be
requested through any of the neighborhood branch libraries.
World Languages
Bienvenue! Velkommen! Bem vindo! Welcome to the world language collection.
Boston is a cosmopolitan
area, and the population includes recent immigrants as well as people
of foreign descent. The World Language Collection serves as closely
as possible their diversified needs. Basic dictionaries are found
on the second floor in the non-fiction collection. World language
books are found on the mezzanine level, except for Spanish which
is shelved on the first floor. Children's books in world languages
can be found at the end of the adult books in each language.
Language-learning audio cassettes,
videos including world language courses for students and travelers as well as English as a
Second Language materials are to be found on the Concourse Level in the Audio-Visual Department or in the Literacy Resource Center.
Many of the branch libraries carry
selections in the language which reflects the ethnic diversity of their
communities. The Central Library's collection contains books in 18 languages.

Many area
libraries draw upon its resources through Interlibrary Loan.
Boston Public Library branches and
suburban libraries may request a representative sampling of books in one or more
languages. Individual readers may request through their local library specific titles or
particular types of books, such as mysteries, biographies. Many books can not be searched
for on-line. Staff can assist as needed.
