Requesting from MBLN Members
Borrowing and Circulating Information


While many items may be requested from MBLN libraries, there are exceptions based on owning library and format/age of material.

Boston Public Library

All materials are requestable with exception of:

  • Non-circulating Research Material
  • Kirstein Business Library
  • Walk-in Loans
  • ILL
  • Museum Pass
  • Reference Material
  • Equipment (laptops, eReaders, headphones, etc.)

Chelsea Public Library

All materials are requestable with exceptions of:

  • Items marked as Local Request
  • ILL
  • Museum Pass
  • Reference Material
  • Videos

Malden Public Library

All materials are requestable with exceptions of:

  • Limit on requests: 2 active request limit per borrower for DVD and Video
  • Local Request items: Hooked on Phonics, new titles, A/V,and DVD
  • ILL
  • Museum Pass
  • Reference Material

Boston Public Schools

Materials are requestable from many (but not all) high schools; no materials are requestable from middle or elementary schools. Most of these schools only receive deliveries once a week, so borrowers should expect all requests that come from these schools to take significantly longer to arrive than other requests.

For all schools, Reference Material and Course Reserves are not requestable.
