Exhibits are open to the public during all library hours unless otherwise indicated.

Boston & Beyond A Bird’s Eye View of New England – Through July 5. The Norman B. Leventhal Map Center at the Boston Public Library marks the public debut of one of the world’s pre-eminent collections of bird’s eye views and celebrates its preservation through a Save America’s Treasures award. Bird’s eye views are a map that present an area as if it was being viewed from an elevation of 2,000 to 3,000 feet. To illuminate the process and intentions of the mapmakers for creating these unusual perspectives, the exhibit will include their diaries, field sketch notes, and manuscript drawings.

26 Miles, 385 Yards--- Johnson Lobby through Aug. 31. Funded by John Hancock and drawn from the collections of the Boston Public Library.

Kids With Cameras: Beyond The Wall -- Through July 31 in the Rabb Lobby. A portrait of Jerusalem through the eyes of Jewish and Palestinian kids. Sponsored by Zionist House / Israel Cultural Center and The Consulate General of Israel to New England. Jason Eskenazi, the coordinator of the project, will speak. Light refreshments will be served. Remembering: Reconciliation and Symbols of Grieving -- Month of July, Boston Room. This striking quilt displays images in remembrance of those who died in the conflict in the north of Ireland. Youth from Boston ’s Dorchester community complement the exhibition by showing how they commemorate the death of friends in the neighborhood. The exhibition is sponsored by the John Joseph Moakley Chair of Peace and Reconciliation at the McCormack Graduate School of Policy Studies, UMass Boston. Relatives for Justice is a Belfast-based support group. The Urban Scholars program at UMass Boston provides bright high school and middle school students with advanced classes and stimulating research opportunities.

American Posters of the First World War -- July 1-Aug. 31, in the Wiggin Gallery. More than 50 American World War I posters, from the BPL Print Department including posters of recruitment, patriotism, war bond promotions, the home front, and war relief organizations.

All the World’s a Page: 400 Years of Shakespeare in Print – July 1 through Sept. 30, Rare Books Room. A new Boston Public Library exhibit, created in partnership with the University of Massachusetts Boston , asks the question: Where would the Bard be without his books? The exhibit showcases not only the books that were most vital to the education and inspiration of William Shakespeare (1564-1616), but also the books—the First Folio of 1623 in particular—that have been responsible for transforming Shakespeare himself. Drawing on the BPL’s Barton Collection of Shakespeariana, the exhibit presents over two dozen items.

Bicentennial of the Archdiocese of Boston -- July 1 through Sept. 30, Cheverus Room and Chavannes Gallery. 617-859-2261. The Archdiocese of Boston and the Boston Public Library are sponsoring a joint exhibit.  Materials from the collections of the archives of the Archdiocese and the research collection and archives of the Boston Public Library will be displayed. There will also be two public lectures presented in conjunction with the exhibit, Sept. 10, Thomas O’Connor Pastoral Profiles: Bishops of Boston; Sept. 24, Robert Johnson Lally speaks on researching church records for family history. Lectures will be at 6:30 p.m. in the Mezzanine Conference Room.

movingline – Aug. 5 – Nov. 30, Popular Reading Room. movingline, Drawings by Channing is the outcome of a seven-year exploration of the science and humanity of movement. With pencil, Channing captures nature's energy, beauty, and rhythms in a series of sixty drawings. In this extraordinary body of work, the intimacy of her art is initially represented by images of crashing waves, birds in flight, and racing horses. Her pursuit of motion then evolves into renditions of dancers and musicians performing, and complex portrayals of the human face.
