Meet Michelle Pulido, Research Services Library Assistant Supervisor at the Boston Public Library! This post is part of our "Behind the Scenes at the BPL" blog series featuring just some of the humans that keep Boston Public Library running.
Where are you from?
I was born and raised in New York City. I moved to Boston to go to college and stayed ever since.
Where were you before you came to the Boston Public Library?
I was in the Cambridge Public School system working with ESL middle schoolers. That job really spurred on my love for books and libraries and led me to working at the Boston Public Library.
What is one of the most surprising things you’ve found working at the Boston Public Library?
The Library does so much! While there are a ton of resources you can take home with you, the library offers so much in house. I also have seen (or I am now aware of working with Research Services) how many people and places all of our research resources and archives help. From documentaries, to museums, to newspapers around the country to even just helping people research their own families, the library holds so much information!
What is your favorite resource at the Boston Public Library?
I have signed up all my friends to use Libby. I use it to read eBooks on my Kindle as well as all the audiobooks. Also the museum passes.
What are you passionate about outside the library?
I am a big baseball fan (my team is the Yankees, sorry not sorry) so I am always trying to go to some baseball games and am listening to baseball podcasts. I also am a big concert and theater go-er. I usually get to a Broadway show about 7-9 times a year and a concert about every couple of months. I am pretty sure I have been to every concert venue in the Boston area.
Do you have any favorite Broadway shows or bands/concerts you'd recommend?
As for favorite Broadway shows, my current favorite on Broadway right now would be Hadestown or The Notebook but I saw Merrily We Roll Along last season and really loved it. I have tickets to see Ragtime and Gypsy soon and am really looking forward to it and also am wanting to hopefully see Oh, Mary! and Maybe Happy Ending.
For concerts, I saw both Noah Kahan and Taylor Swift in London recently and they were both great. In Boston I recently got to see Betty Who but my all time favorite person to see in concert in Beyoncé.
