This One Boston Day, the Boston Public Library will join Mayor Wu, our City of Boston colleagues, residents, and community members across the city to honor the victims, survivors, and first responders of the 2013 Boston Marathon with acts of service.
Beginning the week of April 10, Boston Public Library branches will host spice drives at all locations. Patrons are encouraged to bring unopened spices and dried herbs to their local participating branch. With the help of the Greater Boston Food Bank, these donations will be distributed to families and individuals across Boston and Eastern Massachusetts. Varied combinations of spices are what differentiate cultural cuisines; donating spices helps people maintain their cultural identity and family traditions, encourages creative and nutritious cooking, and celebrates the abundant cultural makeup of our region.
In thanks, patrons who donate will receive a new piece of BPL swag – a button created especially for One Boston Day, featuring the daffodils associated with the Boston Marathon along with the BPL logo. Participants are encouraged to share their reflections and acts of service on social media with the hashtag #OneBostonDay.
