Literacy Volunteers
The Literacy Services Department offers several opportunities for volunteers to work with either adult English-as-a-Second-Language (ESL) learners or adults who are in need of developing basic reading and writing skills towards their individual life goals. For example, some volunteers may work with a small group of two to four ESL learners or facilitate a large drop-in group of five to twenty-five people who are looking to improve their conversational English. Other volunteers may work with an individual helping him or her to improve basic literacy skills for employment or for tests such as the HiSet. For more information please call 617.859.2304 or email volunteer@bpl.org.
Teen Volunteers
Teens (grades 9-12) participating in the Boston Public Library Teen Volunteer Program will learn valuable working skills that will transfer to paid jobs later. Volunteer jobs help to prepare teens to become job ready while working in the library, learning customer service skills, and learning how to interact with a variety of people. Teens will participate in a resume building program and an interview skills workshop. Please follow the link for more information.
